Pixellated Space
Last changes made 4/27/2004

Welcome to Pixellated Space. I'm Kell Carpenter and this is my little corner of the Web.

Here you'll find links to all my Web projects, interests, etc. and so forth. I hope you'll take some time to browse around the site and give me some feedback...

BABY PICTURES
My wife Melena and I had our first child, Kelsey Marie Carpenter, on April 26, 2004. As you might expect, we're both very, VERY excited about this new stage in our lives. I'm already one of those proud fathers who shows off pictures of his children to anyone and everyone. I already had all the sonogram pictures we've gotten from the doctor's office uploaded onto my website's server. Now I've added the pictures from Kelsey's birth. They're all located at http://www.ironrodstudio.com/sites/kell/baby/, so go take a look. I plan on keeping the page updated, and will probably be adding pictures well after we've all come home from the hospital. What can I say? :)

FAN FICTION
I've been involved in fan fiction on the Web since about 1997. I got my toes wet with the Marvel Volume One (MV1 for short) project, and have been a part of several others in one way or another. Here's a map of my life in fan fiction:

MV1
The beginning of my life in fan fiction. MV1 was, in its time, the best fan fiction site on the Web. In my opinion, MV1 set the standard for fan fiction projects. I spent a good two years involved with the project, and I still regard it as one of the most exciting times of my life.

TITLES:
Squadron Supreme
Thunderstrike
Assorted issues

VALIANT
The second big part of my fan fiction life. I participated in two different Valiant fan fiction projects, VALIANT 1 and The Valiant Fanfic Association. Both were begun by my friend and co-worker Barry Reese, and both gave me opportunities to expand my skills by writing about some of my favorite comics characters.

TITLES:
Solar, Man of the Atom
Shadowman

FAUX-DC
A "sister site" spin-off of MV1, Faux-DC was the first DC Comics-based fan fiction sites with whom I became involved. My time at F-DC was short; I only wrote two issues. However, I feel those two issues were among the best I've written to date.

TITLES:
Supergirl #3
Supergirl #4

AVENGERS 2000
This site began as a project devoted to characters directly related Marvel Comics' Avengers comic book. I jumped on board, only to leave on a semi-permanent hiatus after only a couple of issues.

TITLES:
A-Next

DC LEGENDS
The brain child of one of my online friends, Tim Hartin, DC Legends is one of the most fun projects I've been involved with to date. By nature, DC Legends has a relaxed nature and gives its writers lots of freedom. I've since departed the project as a writer, but I'm glad to see that it coninues to be a place for writers to enjoy their writing on the Web.

TITLES:
Martian Manhunter

ALL-STAR 2000
This project was inspired by one of the great comics eras, the Golden Age of DC Comics. Based around the heroes of World War II, the AS2K project brought those heroes into the world of today. Since these are some of my favorite comics characters, I was delighted to join. I have only recently quit the project, but I think some of my best work came from it.

TITLES:
The Flash
JSA

DC HEROES
The "next big thing" in my fan fiction life. I brought my work from AS2K's Flash title with me. I've just finished my big Flash story and am about to begin a project featuring the mysterious and intriguing Vigilante.

TITLES:
Brave and Bold featuring The Flash
Brave and Bold featuring Manhunter

COMICS
I've loved comics practically my entire life. My first memory of comic books goes all the way back to a Richie Rich comic I had at age 3. I actually learned to read from comic books. It's been a wild and wonderful 30 years since then, and my collection has grown along with me. I can't imagine life without comics, and I hope I'll never outgrow them. I like comics so much that a co-worker and I created a Web document on them for an assignment. The document points educators to comics resources on the Web, and is available at www.geocities.com/barchettaboy/comics.html.

MUSIC
Another joy in my life is music. I was a teenager in the early 1980s, so I have a deep and abiding love of the music of that time. Fortunately for me, that particular time period is enjoying a nostalgic resurgence right now. Besides music of the 80s, I'm a big fan of the music of Led Zeppelin and Rush. The title of this page, "Pixellated Space," came from one of Rush's songs: Virtuality, on the album Test For Echo.

WORK
I'm currently employed by the Twin Lakes Library System in Milledgeville, Georgia. I've been employed with the same library since 1993, and have recently earned a Master of Library and Information Science degree from the University of South Carolina. It's an exciting time in the life of our library, as we've opened a brand new library branch, the Lake Sinclair Library. This venture is particularly exciting for me, since I'm Branch Manager for the new location. It's been a hectic time for all of us while we were preparing for the grand opening. Now that we've opened, I've officially begun the next phase of my career and life.
